A Practical Guide to Boat Hitchhiking
Part of the Ecological Voyage Collection
by Nans Thomassey
In September 2008, Blue Rock Station Intern Nans Thomassey and his best friend Guillaume
left France with the intention of hitchhiking around the world.
With little more than the clothes on their back, a bit of water and a couple hundred
dollars (Euros, actually) - they headed off on a three-year adventure. Their goal
was to experience, truly experience, every step of the way.
Their adventure has taken them halfway around the world so far - from France, to
Spain, to the Canary Islands, to the Caribbean and on to Central America. You can
follow their adventures at their web site - The Dream of the Tree.
Along the way, they have become experts at hitch hiking across oceans - getting rides
on luxury yachts. With no sailing experience, Nans and Guillaume have found themselves
crossing the Atlantic, the Caribbean and preparing to cross the great Pacific.
In this practical guide, Nans shares what he has learned.
Discover:
- Where to find a ride?
- What skills and attitudes do you need?
- What about seasickness?
- How to apply for a spot on a luxury sailboat.
- What to bring.
- Boating schedules - who departs from where and when.
- What costs to expect.
- What are you boating options? Pleasure boats, yacht delivery, charters, cargo ships.
- And more...
This 34-page booklet is available in English and in French. It is only available
in electronic format (for the eco-traveler). Proceeds from the booklet will help
Nans and Guillaume continue on their trip (100% gets deposited to their PayPal account).
Price: The cost of this electronic booklet is 5 € (Euros). The currency conversion
is handled automatically by PayPal - so don’t worry about that (you will be billed
in US dollars if your account is in US dollars - the rest of the world is pretty
used to this).
It costs Nans about 5 Euros for each day of travel - so your purchase will extend
his trip by a day. For Americans who (for the most part) are not used to currency
exchanges - the price will vary daily but currently (as of May 15, 2009) the dollar
is worth 0.7388 Euros, so the booklet will cost about $6.75.
So help them live their dream - and start your own.
Many of our publications are now available in electronic format (PDF). This saves

to you the same day you order) - with no shipping costs and no trees necessary. What
a deal!
