Open Work Days at Blue Rock Station

July 3rd-4th   (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)

September 4th   (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)

Okay, here is your chance.  Absolutely free of charge you can come and help us work on some projects that we need to finish.  Some deal, huh?

Actually, you will get a great opportunity to come spend some time working and learning about a number of sustainable practices.

Some of the projects we will be working on include:

  • Pounding tires for foundations, walls or Earthships
  • Garden paths and walkways
  • Earth plastering
  • Building bottle and can walls
  • Working with slate
  • Feeding our rare breed chickens
  • Working with the llamas
  • General garden work
  • ... and probably a bunch of things we haven’t yet imagined

Given the structure of this event, much of your learning will be by watching and doing.  Do not expect any formal instruction (although we will help you out as much as we can).

Tour Blue Rock Station:

First stop is a stroll around the grounds of Blue Rock Station - home of Ohio's first Earthship, an amazing home made of tires, cans, bottles and earth.  During the summer there will be a variety of projects to view including a plastic bottle greenhouse and the espalier wall.  You will tour the home for an insight into how this structure uses the sun and the earth (as well as various bits of "trash") to create a warm and welcoming home.

Settle in for a light lunch:

Then you will have a chance to get to know other guests while you sit down to a delicious lunch (bring your own or for a small donation share in a meal made from local and BRS-grown produce) in the strawbale greenhouse overlooking the hills of southeastern Ohio.

While there is no cost for this event, we will limit the number of participants.  So please reserve your spot early so that you will not be disappointed.   For reservations call us at (740) 674-4300, e-mail Annie@bluerockstation.com
