Women’s Day Out:

Natural Fiber Weaving

Feb 16th (Sat) - 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

March 29th (Sat) - 1-5 pm

Sometimes you just need a day away from this insane 24/7 world we seem to have created for ourselves.  This is why Blue Rock Station has created a series of women-only, restful and nurturing workshops.

Join Brenda South, owner of Log Cabin Weaving in her shop just outside of Carlwick for an afternoon of learning and fun with weaving – for beginners or seasoned pros.

Brenda calls herself the local shepherdess and she has been weaving and spinning for over 20 years.  Her sheep produce the wool she uses in her weaving.  (You can even visit the wool “factory” as they graze nearby).  The shop at Log Cabin Weaving features three different sizes of AVL looms that can weave projects ranging from tea towels to afghans and rugs.

After the weaving lesson, we will make a short trip to enjoy a proper cup of tea and scones inside Ohio’s first “Earthship” with Annie Warmke at Blue Rock Station as part of the afternoon fun.  Come with friends or on your own.   Reservations are required because space is extremely limited (we will only take 6 students for this event).  The fee is $25.

The workshop includes:

  • Overview of different types of natural fiber weaving – yarn, cloth
  • Learn the different parts of the weaving process
  • Drop spindle – learn how to use this simple ancient tool to make yarn
  • Spin with wool rovings on a spinning wheel
  • Practice on  4-harness table loom
  • See how to wind a warp to get a project started on a loom
  • Practice creating a weaving on a hand held loom
  • Tea and tour of Blue Rock Station

Location:

1700 Millers Lane, Zanesville, OH 43701

From Zanesville: go east on Rt. 146 to Miller’s Lane (about 7 miles) and then right at the second driveway.  Directions to Blue Rock Station will be given at the presentation.

For more information please contact Annie Warmke at (740) 674-4300 or email her at annie@bluerockstation.com.  Registrations can be made by calling Annie or register by clicking the buttons below...
