(CANCELED) Raised Bed Natural Gardening 101
Sunday, March 25 2012, 1:00pm - 4:00pm

(Registration fee, $35 per person)

Join Annie and her friends for an early start to making a raised bed garden.    This is an opportunity to learn how to garden from the first step – creating the right space.  Learn about starting plants (when and how), natural insect control, and how to raise enough food to feed your army in a really small space.

After years of gardening around the world, Annie Warmke has decided that nature really does know best.   Why do we fight bugs and weather and animals and common sense in a vain effort to bend nature to our will?

Natural Gardening is a state of mind.  It is a way to work with nature, to guide it, to walk with it - the plants, bugs and critters will amaze you if you let them.  They have, after all, been doing this for a long time.

You’ll learn:

  • Some of the basics of succession planting
  • How to get started – what exactly will you grow and why
  • Companion planting guidelines -  how to use other plants to ward off the bad insects and invite in the good ones
  • The ins and outs of raised bed gardening compared to traditional garden beds
  • How to create insect repellents with plants and other items commonly found in the kitchen
  • AND much more...

You’ll have a pleasant time in the countryside at Blue Rock Station, meet some interesting people and enjoy high tea at the end of the time together.

Reservations are a must to avoid disappointment.  Be sure to bring along some sturdy work gloves, wear sensible shoes that can survive mud, and sun glasses, if it is a sunny day.

Registration for this event is only $35 and includes a tour of Blue Rock Station, the presentation, as well as a proper cup of  British tea.  To register for this event, e-mail Annie at annie@bluerockstation.com  or give her a call at (740) 674-4300.

Tour Blue Rock Station:

First stop is a stroll around the grounds of Blue Rock Station - home of Ohio's first Earthship, an amazing home made of tires, cans, bottles and earth.  During the summer there will be a variety of projects to view including a plastic bottle greenhouse and the espalier wall.  You will tour the home for an insight into how this structure uses the sun and the earth (as well as various bits of "trash") to create a warm and welcoming home.

Please reserve your spot early  so that you will not be disappointed.   For reservations call us at (740) 674-4300 or e-mail usWorkshop FAQ's.
