2012 Straw Bale Workshops

Join us this summer for one of our three straw bale/rammed earth (Earthship techniques) workshops.  This year we will offer these unique educational events in three different formats.

The next event...

Our Complete 7-Day Straw Bale Workshop: May 26th - June 1st, 2012

During this 7-day workshop we will work on two different projects (one we start from scratch - and the "one in the oven" that allows us to do finish work without having to wait for several weeks to allow everything to dry).  This year we will build our most "artistic" building to date (with a living roof).

Plans will be posted well ahead of time, but save the date.  You won't want to miss this event.

If you can't make it for the full week experience - you might wish to get a taste of things at one of our two weekend builds...

The Very Very Basic Straw Bale Weekend Project Build: June 30th - July 1st

The Very Very Basic Straw Bale Weekend Project Build: September 22nd - 23rd

These shorter skill-building workshops are perfect for those folks who are thinking they might like to build a straw bale building one day - but are not yet ready to commit to spending their life’s savings and all their vacation time flying out west somewhere to get the total immersion program.

From  start-to-finish we will learn all the skills necessary to build a small garden outbuilding  - at the same time utilizing all the skills that you would use to build a much larger project.  Sort of a “walk before you run approach.”

Thanks for Nothing!!!

THANKS FOR NOTHING MONTH is coming to a close - and what a month is has been.  For a complete account - visit our blog at http://bluerockstation.wordpress.com/

We have spent the month of January seeing how what would be involved in attempting to live without money (and mostly without power and gasoline) for a month.

Our former intern, Nans Thomassey (who lives in the Rhone-French Alps with his partner Fanny Gonnet) is taking to an even more extreme - turning off the power in their home and hooking up a generating bicycle to power their computer.  By next spring they hope to have co-written a book about their experiences.

Follow the adventures through the THANKS FOR NOTHING DIARIES at the Blue Rock Station blog.
